Healthcare Access & Nutrition Education in Asunción
The Devoted Skies Healthcare Access Project in Paraguay focuses on understanding and strengthening the country's healthcare system, with particular attention to nutritional care delivery and patient needs across both urban and rural settings.
Our team visited university and rural healthcare facilities to assess system needs and review enteral and parenteral nutrition practices. Activities included meetings with hospital and university leadership, patient rounds, technical presentations on evidence-based nutrition care, and discussions on potential opportunities for collaboration and support.
The assessment highlighted both the strengths of Paraguay's committed healthcare workforce and the persistent gaps in resource availability — particularly in rural areas where access to specialized nutrition support remains limited.
What We Learned
The visit concluded with an evaluation of healthcare conditions and identification of goals for future Devoted Skies involvement. Key themes included:
- Demand for evidence-based nutrition care training among local clinicians
- Limited access to specialized equipment and protocols outside the capital
- Strong enthusiasm among healthcare leaders for collaborative partnerships
Paraguay represents an important expansion of our work beyond Africa, reflecting Devoted Skies' commitment to addressing healthcare disparity wherever it persists. Partner clinic information and program updates will be shared as the program develops.
