Q3 2020 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I have deep appreciation for people who remember their dreams. My challenges are that I do not remember most of my dreams when I wake up. To make up for this, I daydream. Imagine a world where life expectancy between developing and developed countries is not a margin of 30 years. Our mission continues to be a world where every vulnerable patient has access to lifesaving medicines and modern healthcare.

The pandemic is still very real and its impact on all our collective lives has been significant. Over the last three months, we have stayed in close contact understand the challenges of our partners in many parts of the world. The fight is just beginning, and it is layered on top of unjust disparities in health care that make surviving a pandemic all the more difficult for the most vulnerable.

Devoted Skies continued efforts to inform and arise awareness on global healthcare inequities. We participated during the national Autism Awareness month on a walk to support and raise funds for a NJ Chapter of Autism Speaks. Did you know 70 million people in the world are on the Austin spectrum and 85% of them live in developing countries where resources are scarce?

Additionally, Devoted Skies earned a Bronze Seal of Transparency with GuideStar – by Candid – a 3rd Party non-profit rating agency. We are deeply appreciative of the recognition as this platform provides another medium to be accountable for our sustainable development goals in South America, Asia and Africa. Lastly, it provides an opportunity to make informed decision through our showcased program and its impact.

We welcomed to our Advisory Board Juan B. Ochoa Gautier, MD, FACS, FCCM. Dr. Ochoa is Colombian and board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He dedicates his practice exclusively to the management of critically ill patients and currently directs surgical intensive care units. We are excited to have Juan on the board and look forward to designing clinical programs and coordinating our inaugural mission trip with him next year.

Our annual fund-raising event is themed Cooking with Compassion. Devoted Skies is in collaboration with a renowned New York City Chef on a virtual cooking lesson. Please register to join us for the 45-minutes session demonstrating the healthy cooking of Greek Lemon Chicken with Potatoes and Tzatziki sauce. Proceeds will go towards the Devoted Skies mission of providing crucial medical needs to saving lives.

Did you know your contributions and donations are completely tax deductible? I hope we can rely on your continued support; tell a friend about the wonderful work we are doing…

Let your compassion be followed by curiosity.

Optimism is a moral choice. So is generosity.
I have witnessed the power of a single donation and the magnified power of collective generosity and engaged partnership.

With warmth and gratitude,
Funso
