Dear Friends,

As we move through 2026, Devoted Skies is deepening its focus on research-driven impact — pairing field experience with data to better serve communities facing growing health and resource gaps. In line with this focus, our annual Tee for a Cause golf event was postponed this year as we prioritize research initiatives. We're also excited to share a refreshed Devoted Skies website, aimed at better showcasing our work and expanding engagement.

A Changing Global Landscape

The recent contraction of programs at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) — with over 80% of programs discontinued — has significantly reduced support for global health systems. The result is increased strain on local providers, disrupted care delivery, and a greater need for efficient, scalable solutions on the ground.

Research & What's Next

Early findings from our dialysis operations assessment highlight a system design challenge more than a pure capacity issue. Demand remains heavily clustered in peak hours, driving long wait times while resources sit underutilized later in the day. Patients also report cost pressures and limited scheduling predictability — all of which affect adherence and outcomes.

This raises an important forward-looking question guiding our next phase of work:

Are we seeing a shift in the prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) toward younger populations — and what does that mean for prevention, access, and long-term system design?

Spotlight: Jessica Rodriguez

We are pleased to introduce Jessica Rodriguez, formerly with USAID Mozambique. Her experience in strengthening community health systems offers valuable perspective as we expand our research and impact in a rapidly changing environment.

Devoted Skies remains committed to turning insight into action — delivering smarter, more resilient solutions where they are needed most. If this work resonates, we invite you to stay engaged — through partnership, advocacy, or support — as we expand our research and field impact in the year ahead.

Warm regards, Funso Olufade, PhD Managing Director & Founder, Devoted Skies
